Fall decorating is a fun activity to do around your house, especially if you just moved into a new home. You can create a great fall atmosphere around your home without spending a lot of time or money. We’ve got a few tips that will make your fall decorating easy as pumpkin pie!
Be Bold - Use accent colors in your fall decorations. Warm colors like orange, red, and cranberry are all popular during the fall. You can use them in your decor, even if you don’t want them to overwhelm the room. Accent your furniture with burgundy throw pillows or blankets to give the entire room a fall theme. Swap out the summer flowers in your porch pots for orange and yellow mums. You can add just a few bold pieces and make a big impact if you use the right colors.
Go Natural - Use natural items in your home. Roast some acorns and place them in a decorative vase or bowl on your table. Grab some gourds or small pumpkins on your visit to the pumpkin patch and place them in a cornucopia on your hearth or mantle. Natural fall elements will fit in your home, no matter what you use for your other decor.
Don’t Overdo It - Your fall decorations should not overwhelm your house or your yard. Start with 2-3 fall decorations per room and add more if that isn’t enough for your home. If you have a large collection of fall themed items, you don’t even have to use every item each year. Sometimes the things that were great for your old house just don’t fit the new one. Look through your collection and decide which items you want to put up and which you might use next year. If you don’t plan to use it again, give it to someone who will.
Have Fun - Most of all, your fall decorating should be enjoyable. It should not feel like one more chore to check off your list. You can do put out one item a day throughout the season or put all of it out in one day. You can put out only hand-made items that you DIY or you can buy everything at the store. Figure out what works best for you and your home.
Enjoy the Adventure!
